The Makati central business district (CBD) is the Philippines' financial and business capital. Located in Makati, one of the 17 cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila, it is home to many of the country's major banks, corporations, and multinational companies. Its development began in the early 20th century and has been closely tied to the influential Ayala family. Since its inception, it drastically transformed over the decades from a rural area into a prominent urban center teeming with office skyscrapers, high-end condos, luxury hotels, and shopping complexes. Makati CBD is bounded by EDSA to the southeast, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue to north and northeast, Amorsolo Street to the west, and A. Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road) to the south. It comprises three main commercial areas: Legaspi Village, Salcedo Village, and Ayala Center, while the exclusive residential enclave Urdaneta Village falls within this boundary. Furthermore, Makati CBD is surrounded by high-end residential subdivisions similarly developed by the Ayala family: Forbes Park, Dasmarinas Village, San Lorenzo Village, and Bel-Air Village.
